The Breed

Historic

An ancient passion that is renewed each generation.

In 1870, Cassiano Campolina, born july 10th 1836, won the mare Medeia, pregnant of a D. Pedro II Andalusian. From this crossbreed was born the foal Monarca. That was the beginning of a successful history: the rising of the Campolina breed.

Cassiano had as primary objective to breed large horses, agile, resilient and beautiful. For this purpose, he selected and crossbred several strains like the PSI, Anglo-Normando and Marchador accordingly to his intuition and experience.

In 1904, over thirty years of steady work in his purposes, Cassiano Campolina passed away. But thanks to his friends’ dedication and effort the strain was improved and preserved. Families Joaquim Pacheco de Resende and Cel. Gabriel Andrade were fundamental in this mission. Through the years we can name other greater families, such Agenor Sampaio, Alfredo Manuel Fernandes, Américo de Oliveira, Américo Ferreira Leite, Antonio Lopes da Silva, Arnaldo Bezerra, Cel. Linto Diniz, Ascanio Diniz, Emir Cadar, Epaminondas Cunha Melo, Fernando Diniz Oliveira, Geraldo Magela Resende, Guaracy Engel Vieira, Guido Pacheco Magalhães, Heitor Lambertucci, Jamil Saliba, José Eugenio Câmara Dutra, José Ferreira Leite, José Geraldo Areias, Leonardo Campos, Luiz Eduardo Cortez (DEADO), Lídio Araujo, Orminio de Almeida, Pedro Joaquim Carlos, Roberto Catelmo, Severino Veloso, Tonico Figueiredo, Valdemar Resende Urbano, Valério Resende, among so many others.

After almost 70 years developing the strain according to each breeder reference, became necessary to define a breeding pattern in a way that all breeders could unite their efforts to improve the strain in its official features. The Brazilian Society of Cavalo Campolina Breeders was funded in 1953, the head office in Belo Horizonte. Today, all strain breeders are responsible for the continuity of this history, which gains more admirers and strengthen every year.

Campolina is synonymous of might and leisure in Brazil and the whole world.
